sensitivity of his playing both as soloist and as chamber musician. Through his numerous
recordings, mainly on the Hyperion label, he has won widespread admiration as an outstanding
interpreter of the Romantic piano repertoire. Piers Lane has appeared five times as soloist at the
BBC Proms. In 2007 he added a new dimension with his appointment as Artistic Director of the
Australian Festival of Chamber Music.
No praise could be high enough for Piers Lane,
whose playing throughout is of a superb musical intelligence, sensitivity, and
scintillating brilliance. Bryce Morrison, Gramophone.

Haydn: String Quartet in C major Op 54 No 2;

The Chilingirian Quartet is one of the world's most celebrated and widely
travelled ensembles, renowned for their thrilling interpretations of the great
quartets and commanding performances of the contemporary repertoire. The
Quartet was founded in 1971 by Levon Chilingirian and Philip De Groote. Their
subsequent success has earned them many awards and commendations,
including the Royal Philharmonic Society's coveted Chamber Ensemble Award.
After performing for us one of Haydn's best-loved string quartets, they join forces
with Nicholas Cox, Principal Clarinet of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic
Orchestra, to play Brahms's supreme masterpiece and the delightfully lyrical
Quintet by English composer Hugh Wood (b1932), written in 2007.
