Pre-concert interview with members of The Revolutionary Drawing Room at 6.45pm
The Revolutionary Drawing Room
String ensemble led by Adrian Butterfield (violin)
Haydn: String Quartet in G major Op 77 No 1;
Spohr: Double Quartet No 1 in D minor Op 65;
Mendelssohn: String Octet in E flat major Op 20
Founded in 1990 by Adrian Butterfield, the Revolutionary Drawing Room specializes in classical and romantic music on period instruments.
Combining a historical approach to interpretation with a commitment to lively and communicative performances,
the ensemble gives convincing readings of less well-known works as well as revealing fascinating detail and colour in the familiar Viennese classics.
Their programme for HMS marks three centenaries – the death of Haydn and the births of Mendelssohn and Spohr in 1809.
Adrian Butterfield is Associate Director of the London Handel and Tilford Bach Festivals and directs the London Handel Orchestra
at these and other festivals across Europe.
He is also leader/director of the Steinitz Bach Players at the London Bach Festival and the Hanover Band.
He is Professor of Baroque Violin at the Royal College of Music.
